Are the dyes used on your organic clothing safe?
At Greenfibres we offer a wide range of organic textile products, from bedding to towels to clothing. A large part of our range is not dyed and not bleached, offering you the purest and most natural form of organic cotton clothing and bedding.
But, if you prefer coloured clothing or home textiles, then it's good to know that because our organic cotton bedding and clothing is certified to the Global Organic Textile Standards (GOTS), then dyes used must also be certified as safe for use.
The dyes used for organic cotton are known as eco synthetic dyes, they cannot be from a 100% natural source because cotton does not take plant dyes like wool or hemp. The dyes are very robustly tested for the lowest possible toxicity to make sure they are absolutely safe for human use and that there will be no detrimental impact on the environment.
The dyeing process is a closed loop system which means that the dyeing process ensures that all dye is used and bonded very tightly to the cotton fibres so that there is no waste water runoff, ensuring they don't pollute local water supplies.
